Qing Dynasty Peking: Thomas Child’s Photographs

An extensive collection of Thomas Child’s nineteenth-century photographs of Peking will be exhibited at the China Exchange in London, November 10-15, 2015.

Thomas Child was the most prolific early photographer of Peking, and this is the first extensive exhibition of his photographs.

The exhibition is being held in conjunction with Asian Art in London.

Qing Dynasty Shanghai: The Photographs of William Saunders

Qing Dynasty Shanghai: The Photographs of William Saunders features a selection of 35 to 40 original 19th-century albumen silver prints, many hand-colored, by William Saunders from the Loewentheil China Photography Collection, the largest holding of late Qing dynasty photographs of China in private hands. This is the first public exhibition devoted to Saunder’s photography. Saunders occupies a distinguished place in the history of photography for the exceptional body of work he produced in Shanghai during the late Qing dynasty.

Qing Dynasty Peking: Thomas Child’s Photographs

The first exhibition in America of rare 19th-century photographs of Beijing by Thomas Child from the Loewentheil China Photography Collection. The famous bride and groom in Child’s wedding photograph, Zeng ji Fen and Nie ji Gui, were only recently identified, and then discovered by their great grandson Raymond Watt living in New York City. Child’s noble wedding portrait is of great significance to the history of China.

Masterpieces of Early Chinese Photography

Masterpieces of Early Chinese Photography brings together 30 original photographs by the greatest figures in nineteenth-century photography of China. These rare early photographs are from the Stephan Loewentheil Historical Photography of China Collection.

This important exhibition presents together for the first time more than thirty masterpieces of early China photography. These rare nineteenth-century photographs open a window to a lost world, but they are also pinnacles of early photographic art.

Vision and Reflection: Photographs of China in the 19th Century from the Loewentheil Collection

The Tsinghua University Art Museum will present for the first time in Beijing over one hundred masterpieces of early photography of China from the Stephan Loewentheil Collection.
